China and Vietnam have reportedly said in a joint communique that they would handle and appropriately control their maritime conflicts to maintain order and stability in the South China Sea. The countries also stated that they would use an actual border talks mechanism to reach a resolution. Notably, both China and Vietnam claim parts of the potentially energy-rich South China Sea.
