1,000 asylum seekers stranded in the Mediterranean

According to reports, about 1,000 people are stranded in the Mediterranean Sea. Several reports suggest that the people are asylum seekers from Libya. Four Italian Coast Guard ships have been reportedly sent out to recover the asylum seekers. Other ships from the UN and Germany have also joined the Italian ships to save the asylum seekers. SOS Mediterranee has reported that 700 people had been rescued to safety, including several children.
