THE BEST OF 2011 - my favorite English, Tamil and Hindi movies released last year. This list has nothing to do with the box office success or popularity of the films concerned. It's just my humble opinion and I have tried to avoid partiality as much as possible.

TOP 10 ENGLISH FILMS OF 2011(Only those released in India are considered)
10. The Rum Diary/In Time/The Adventures of Tintin/Rio
9. Crazy, Stupid Love
8. Hanna/Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol
7. Thor/Sherlock Holmes - A game of Shadows
6. Contagion
5. Drive
4. Source Code
3. The Ides of March
2. X Men: First Class
1. The Tree of life

NOTE - It was a year of sequels for Hollywood. While some of them disappointed (Pirates, Cars, Happy feet) Some marked a surprising return to form for some stale franchises (X Men, Fast Five, Final Destination).

TOP 5 HINDI FILMS OF 2011

5. Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara/Dhobi Ghat
4. Rockstar
3. Pyaar ka Punchnaama
2. I AM Afia Megha Abhimanyu Omar
1. Delhi Belly

NOTE - A year in which Bollywood explored new genres and at the same time minted money from remakes of films from the south (Ready, Bodyguard, Singham, Force etc). SRK minted money too but gave the audience splitting headaches in return. (Ra one, Don2). Btw Mr. Aamir Khan - Way to go!! Respect.

TOP 5 TAMIL FILMS OF 2011

5. Engeyum Eppothum/Vaagai Sooda Vaa
4. Deiva Thirumagal
3. Mayakkam Enna
2. Aadukalam
1. Aaranya Kaandam.

NOTE - A special mention for Mankatha. Though by no stretch of imagination a good movie, Ajith redefined charisma and burnt up the screen with a bold baddie act. The yardstick based on which any full fledged negative role taken up by any hero in the future would be measured. A word about my top 2. They also feature in my all time favorite list (any language). While Aadukalam was a stunning metaphor to man's greed, jealousy and hatred, Aaranya Kaandam was cinematic perfection. Simply blew me away (Now, that does not happen too often to me).
