It all started in Annamalai University where a group
of good friends got together. As mostly Thalaivar
fans, our friendship grew and matured with the release
of each Thalaivar movie. Fortunately, most of the
friends came to USA to study and work. They wanted
to keep the tradition alive. Thalaivar movies became
our Diwali, Superbowl, Thanksgiving and Christmas
combined together. We got together in one city for
Thalaivar movie release. At each movie release, old
friendships were renewed, new ones were born and for
everyone who watched the movie with us it became an
unforgettable event.
For Chandrmukhi, it opened with a dingy van cleaned
and pasted (we were students then) with Thalaivar
posters parading around the Detroit airport. Fans
threatened with a call to the police for shouting
slogans and dancing on the van and ended with a scared
theatre manager warning us after ‘karpuram’
was shown in the first scene.
We went one up for Sivaji, with HUMMERS and T Shirts
and Cake for Sivaji in Chicago. The youtube video
of this celebration was viewed by more than 10000
people. We made more friends and shook hands with
more people than most would do in a lifetime.
For Endhiran, the planning started long ago. Couple
of our friends could not fly out of Florida. So we
decided to do it in Tampa, FL. We started planning
and were trying to figure out ways to make this a
better experience than Sivaji. Endhiran celebrations
seemed unsurmountable and the rights for the movie
in Tampa have not been sold yet. We were growing impatient.
Going to a different city is not possible without
our friends.
As Thalaivar says, "Andavan solran. Arunachalam
seiran", “En vazhi.. Thani vazhi”.
One of our friends suggested and suddenly it all became
clear. The only way we could it make this better than
Sivaji is to release the Film ourselves in Tampa,
FL. Nanbanukuga uyiraiye koduppar Thalaivar, but we
can atleast do this. We think this is the best way
to honor our friendship and our Thalaivar. "Chumma
Adhiruthulla".
