What do audience expects on walking into a movie hall for Simbu movie? Firstly punch dialogues with some finger movements, a build up song, definitely a kuthu song, always a comedian with him (probably Santhanam), action and revenge sequences and occasionally you may find a hard core romance like VTV. Is his newly released Poda Podi a mixture of all?

Poda Podi is worth commenting that it is an unusual Simbhu movie, has a wafer thin story line. A love that immaturely buds and how the situations bond them closer and end as true lovers. The movie revolves around hardly five-six characters and each of them is well defined. The characterization of the hero and heroine is the plot of the story. In the very first scene the director gives a sketch of what the movie is about for the next two hours rather leaving you with some huge expectations from STR, that is a good thought.

Simbu has done the best of what he could do for the script; the script doesn’t demand much acting from the leads. However STR has given his best shot wherever he finds an opportunity. His dialogue delivery especially the ones that he speaks in mind are enjoyable. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as a new comer dances well but on acting and dialogue delivery she has to work a lot. Her voice is a drawback, doesn’t sound pleasant. Simbu-Varalaxmi pair doesn’t suite well on screen, being a romance genre movie this matters a lot. Simbu shines well in the few scenes especially where he emotionally breaks out in dialogues with Shobana.

Hats off to VTV Ganesh. He stands next to Simbu as the show stealer. His comedy especially when he speaks (advises) English makes the theatre burst out in laugh and roar. The chemistry between STR and Ganesh works well on screen. His voice is his biggest asset. Shobana is always remembered by Tamil Cinema fans as a homely girl, Superstar's Thalapathi may be the reason behind it .Shobana as a guardian and a middle aged spinster doesn’t convince the audience, she is not the right choice for the role. However she does good to her role.

The tunes are strictly for the youths, may not reach well on B and C centres .Good work from the director on the refreshing screenplay and dialogues and on solid characterization too.

The movie moves towards an International dance competition where the heroine strives to participate, Did I say "heroine”? Yes it is heroine who strives to dance in the competition...Any audience would question why has the director made a script as heroine striving to participate when the hero is Simbu - an excellent dancer .The Climax kuthu song would answer your question ,watch it out on theatres.

An unusual refreshing time pass movie from STR.
