Seenu Ramasamy’s “Thenmerku Paruvakaatru” won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. Movie went unnoticed and didn’t run well. But, after receiving the Award, people started watching the movie in DVD’s, TV Channels and started praising the movie. Hence, it created an expectation for this movie and it got increased to great extent as it was produced by Udayanidhi Stalin. This movie had got released in almost 300 screens all over Tamil Nadu which is really huge for a film which doesn’t have a top hero or heroine.

Neerparavai is about the lives of fishermen community. Though it speaks about the lives of innocent fishermen getting killed without any reason in international borders, it is shown with a backdrop of romance between Vishnu and Sunaina.

Though the story is pretty simple and doesn’t have much twists, director had selected actors perfectly which helps the movie to great extent. Samuthirakani, Thambi Ramaiah, Saranya, Black Pandi, Nanditha Das, Vadivukkarasi, Azhagam Perumal have done full justice to their roles. Dialogues spoken by Samuthirakani, Saranya and Thambi Ramaiah were the major highlights of this movie.

Vishnu had done a good job as a drunkard youngster. Sunaina is the talented actress who didn’t get much opportunity to show her acting skills in Tamil Cinema. In this movie, she had grabbed the opportunity with both hands. This will be one of the best movies in her career.

Music by N R Raghunanthan was awesome. ‘Para Para’, ‘Meenuku’, ‘Yaar Veetu’ were too good and background music adds more emotions to this movie

Cinematography by Balasubramaniam was excellent. He had really captured the various moods and tones of the sea in such a way that it is pleasing to our eyes.

Dialogues by Jayamohan and Seenu Ramasamy are the HERO for this movie. Dialogues such as “Even Media mentions them as Tamil Fishermen instead of Indian Fishermen”, “Only Ulcer & Love can stop people from drinking liquor”, “I drink less like a WHITE MAN though I am Black” will be enjoyed by any class of audience.

Hats off to director Seenu Ramasamy for having guts to take this sensitive topic with a simple love story and making it interesting with the help of GREAT SUPPORTING ACTORS.

Story seems to be pretty simple and falls flat with very slow screenplay. Movie runs for only 136 minutes, but even then you will feel as though it was dragging. Climax of the movie looks melodramatic.

Rating for this movie by Common Man will be 2.75 / 5.
For people who love different attempts in Tamil Cinema, rating will be 3 / 5
