I am writing this just to express my personal view on the number of songs which are included in a movie. Coming straight to the point, do we need 5 songs in a movie just to fulfill the commercial film criteria? There are number of films where you can see that songs come in between a tense scene or a particular moment where you feel why in the world the story line should be interrupted at this juncture by a song which carries little connection to the story per say.

Those days, in 60's particularly, the songs and the story of the movie blended well. Who can forget films like Kathalika Neramillai, Anbe Vaa, Karnan etc? Even in 80's, films like Mudhal Mariyathai are scripted so well with the songs.

Sadly, at this point of time, you can sense a deja vu of most of the songs played- some are better not heard and most importantly tests your patience to sit down patiently watching the film. One film which I can say respected the matured audience taste will be Mayakkam Enna where it has songs woven brilliantly in to the script. Kudos to Selvaraghavan.

I hope that directors and writers will be more creative and reasonable when they decide to add songs in their films without spoiling their main theme.
