Legends says that this
city is named after an old woman who lived
in that area, had humbly
offered boiled beans
to King Ballala, a Hoysala ruler. The king
was so pleased with their hospitality that
he named the entire city as” bele benda
kaalu Ooru,” which in local language
of kannada means “ the place of boiled
beans”. Today the name has been shortened
and anglicized after the British influence
and has come to be called as Bangalore. Bangalore
offers tourists with delightful weather conditions
throughout the year. The pleasant ambiance
and the climate is conducive to the greenery
of the city, flowering trees, lakes and parks
and hence it is called the silicon valley
of India .
