The national awards for films were announced in New Delhi yesterday. Saif Ali Khan won the best actor award for his performance in Hum Tum and Tara won the best actress award for her role in Hasina in Kannada. Buddhadeb Dasgupta was awarded the best director for his Bengali film, Swapner din. Madhur Bhandarkar’s controversial film, Page 3 won in the departments of Best film, best screenplay and editing. Tamil film, Autograph, won awards in 3 categories. Playback singer Chitra won for her soulful rendition of Ovvoru pookalume… in the film. Pa. Vijay won the best lyricist accolade. The film also bagged the award in the category of best film providing wholesome entertainment. This is indeed a landmark achievement for the entire crew led by the director, Cheran. It has reestablished his credentials as a sensitive film-maker. Hats off to all you guys, keep the banner flying high!
