Interview : Vikram

tamil cinema interview anniyan
tamil cinema interview vikram
tamil cinema interview maja

Q: What do you have to say about the success of Anniyan?

Vikram : I am extremely happy and humbled at the same time. I was excited that the film should win but breaking box office records was truly unbelievable. Touch wood. Everywhere I go I hear the resounding roar of ‘Remo, Remo’. It can get scary at times. All the credit should go to Shankar for creating the unforgettable role and for Oscar Ravichandran to have made the film without pulling at purse strings.

Q: How is
Maja shaping up?

Vikram : It is diametrically opposite to Anniyan. It is a laugh riot throughout. It will be an action and comedy package, a little like Dhool.

Q: Can you let us in on the story?

Vikram: Sorry, no. Suffice to say that there will be plenty of emotions and sentiment. The film discusses the affection between father and son, between brothers and so on. There is also a rollicking love story with Asin. Watch it and you will fall in love with the film.

Q: Do you think you don’t have competition in the industry?

Vikram: Please, boss, don’t invite trouble for me(guffaws). I do not claim to be superior. There are many people who are talented and come up with unbelievable performances. If you are complacent, so many others are there breathing down your back. I like to watch everyone’s acting and imbibe a little of it. My main aim is to perform as much variety as possible without being cast in a stereotype.

Q: Do you think you have any more peaks to scale after the National award?

Vikram :( touching his chest) I feel honoured to be chosen for the award. This recognition is definitely a tonic and made me more popular. It is also a motivation for striving harder. Cinema has given me all that I had wanted and my wish is to do roles as varied as can be. My passion for cinema has to be answered and I will keep the journey as long as it burns inside me.

Q: You have changed your looks to suit the roles. Any novel ventures in the pipeline….

Vikram: I think an actor has to get under the skin of the character. Only the character should stay in the minds of the audience and they should forget the actor. From Sethu to Anniyan, I have strived for uniqueness in portrayals. I am also willing to act as the villain if the character is etched strongly.

Q: There is talk that you are incomparable as an actor. How do you react to this?

Vikram: God, so much appreciation should not go to my head. (Pats the back of his head) My journey is on the right trajectory. I do not view cinema as a source of making money. My creative urge and the roles which satiate my hunger for performance are the primary criterion for accepting a project. Money is only secondary.

Q: Your next projects…

Vikram: After Maja, it will be a film for A.M. Ratnam. Then it will be a bilingual in Telugu and Tamil for Okkadu Gunasekar. It will be a typical Telugu masala fare.

Q: Your parting words for your fans.

Vikram: Please, please, please give my characters just as much affection as you have shown so far. I shall be thankful to you till my last breath. I am raring to dish up unique and novel performances. So, keep the spotlight on Vikram intact.
