"Kanakanden" K.V.Anand Interview:

An exclusive with Director and cinematographer K.V.Anand ...

Q: Do you think that it is a right decision that many cinematographers such as you are becoming directors as such?

K V Anand: Of course it is a right decision. Cinematographers are the next best level to directors. We see in the perspective of the director so as to bring in what he expects of the movie. I have worked under many known and famous directors who stress more on the story line. I have entered the field only after proper counter measures in direction.

Q: Did you loose many films as a cameraman for directing "KanaKanden"?

K V Anand: Yes, I did loose or miss many good movies as a cameraman to direct this movie. Shankar is a good friend of mine. I missed his "Anniyan", "Lagan" directors Hindi film, one of Rajkumar Santhoshi's film and Vijay's "Sachin" and Rajini's "Chandramukhi" for this film's sake. But this film's success means more to me than anything.

Q: What is the story of "Kanakanden"?

K V Anand: "Kanakanden" is basically a thriller. Srikanth, Gopika and Prithiviraj are the main players in the film. When I told the story of the film to this trio, they happily agreed to act in the film. The character of Prithviraj in this film was first proposed to be for Prashanth. But as he didn't have his call sheet for the film, the chance went for Prithviraj, who is doing exceptionally well for the film now.

The story of "Kanakanden" is the effect which happens when two people with different entire mindset meet each other.

Q: You have worked under many Hindi film's what do you think the difference between Hindi and Tamil film's?

K V Anand: In Hindi mostly Sharukh Khan films becomes a hit, and there is also a lot of sex based films in the bollywood. Tamil films when compared to Hindi films are really good. "Pithamagan" is a hit and so is "Gilli". Both are different types of film. But they are doing well here. I packed my bags here because I wanted to do my well known Tamil films than doing language unknown films.
