GUZAARISH MUSIC REVIEW
Review by : C. Karthik
Music Director : Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Vocals : KK, Shail Hada, Kunal Ganjawala, Rakesh Pandit, Vibhavari Joshi, Francois Castellino, Harshdeep Kaur, Shankar Mahadevan
Lyrics : Turaz, Vibhu Puri
After Vishal Bharadwaj, we have Sanjay Leela Bhansali turning music director for his directorial. Guzaarish has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala and has Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai playing the lead roles. With the movie's promos creating hype among viewers, the music of Guzaarish was launched recently. We will take a sneak peek into the album.

Guzaarish ...
Vocals: KK, Shail Hada

The sound of thunder and raindrops welcome you to Guzaarish. The pain and the cries are overcome by the magic of KK who just gives his best. A very simple arrangement of instruments but the agony of the protagonist yearning for love is well pronounced. What better instrument to express pathos than the violin. Wow! Though Sahil Hada helps in between, only the deep voice of KK could make this song so good to hear.

Sau Gram Zindagi ...
Vocals: Kunal Ganjawala

Thodi si meethi hai...zara si mirchi hai. Well we wonder what kind of a start is this to a song. But the usually bold voice of Kunal Ganjawala mellows down this time to convey the measure of life which is seen by lyricist Vibhu Puri. Asli hai.. Jhoothi hai.. lots of philosophy. Again very simple and just enough music to give it a soothing feel though it gets a little heavier towards the end. Worth listening!

Tera Zikr...

Vocals: Sahil Hada, Rakesh Pandit

We wait and wait more to know what's in store next. Sadness gives away to a livelier tune this time. Sahil Hada praises his lady love (in the movie of course!). Well paced tune and surely brings a smile on our faces. This song just emphasises the fact that Sanjay has a selected mood that he wishes to employ in the album. Tera Zikr has a classical appeal to it and must surely enchant the audience.

Saiba...

Vocals: Vibhavari Joshi, Francois Castellino, Sahil Hada

The mood just changes a beat with Saiba. With refreshing voices it is all Vibhavari's show in Saiba. Congaz with lovely strums give it a Portuguese touch to it. But the voice of Vibhari is captivating above all these. Sahil and Francois complete a delightful number. But the song, due to its unusual lyrics may not be a people's favorite but surely it worth listening more than once.

Jaane Kiske Khwaab...
Vocals:
KK

Whose dream is it... croons KK. Minimal lyrics and the deep voice of KK wins your heart straightaway. Take the music away, close your eyes and listen to it unplugged and you will still love it. KK is in prime form and just masterly conveys the mood of the song. Sheer Genius! Keep your finger on the rewind button because this is a runaway winner.

Udi...
Vocals: Sunidhi Chauhan, Shail Hada

It is hard to relish Udi's infectious enthusiasm because your heart is still heavy after listening to Jaane Kiske Khwaab. But Sunidhi Chauhan relentlessly makes you want to listen to her. The song has a Latin-American touch to it and is delightful to listen to. Maybe.. just maybe this one is the odd one out as the other songs in the album so far have maintained a steady mood and feel. Not the best in the album but Udi scores!

Keh Na Saku...
Vocals: Sahil Hada

Everything is back to normal again with Keh Na Saku. Sahil sings a solo this time. Nothing special about this song. Vibhu Puri's lyrics delivers nothing new here. Very basic scale of musicals but can be appealing when it is attached to a situation in the movie.

Chaand Ki Katori...
Vocals: Harshdeep Kaur

Another situational song. A lovely melody. Harshdeep Kaur delivers Vibhu Puri's lyrics delightfully. Not a classic though but this one belongs to the passable category. The refreshing voice of Harshdeep is the highlight of the song.

Daayein Baayein...
Vocals: KK

The immediate thought that springs in your mind when you hear Daayein Baayein is whether the songs deserves to be at number 9 in the album. KK is back in action again with lovely strumming guitars. Another melody but this is mesmerising to listen to. A pleasant song and this one is for the magician of the movie. Look forward to the visuals to this song. Would also love to listen to an acoustic version of this song. Another one to rewind and listen again!

Dhundhli Dhundhli ...
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan

Shankar Mahadevan completes the album with Dhundhli Dhundhli. Just the perfect finish to the album. Shankar is one more singer whose voice can penetrate inside us. So he sums up the album with another deep, haunting melody.

Verdict:

(Music) director Sanjay Leela Bhansali does leave a very good impression in his first complete album. The one thing he has ensured is that there are no remixes in the album even though there are 10 tracks. The songs have depth and soul attached to it. It is quite evident that Sanjay has thought about conveying the feel of the movie. The only risk is that the songs can make an impact if seen with the visuals of the movie. The songs have a stamp of quality though it does get to slow listening at times. Going by the teasers, the songs are sure to make us emote when seen on the big screen.
