Revathi made her debut in Mann vasanai. This protégé of Bharathiraja went on to be a leading actress. Her performance in Pudhumaippenn earned her the title of Mounappuyal for the way she conveyed deep emotions with still eyes. She has worked with top heroes and leading directors. Besides being a talented classical dancer she has been an active campaigner for several social issues. She has been associated with not-for-profit organizations which work with mentally challenged children and HIV victims. She has appeared in films which raise awareness on these topics. She turned producer and has also directed films in Tamil, English and Hindi. Mitr-my friend and Phir milenge won critical acclaim for the sensitive treatment of the pressing complexities of our lives. Now, she is going to direct a film in Telugu which will be produced by Jayan Sibaranji. He is the producer of Shankardada MBBS, the Telugu version of Munnabhai.
