Tamil cinema is plagued by several ills, the most important one being the decline in the numbers who go to a theater for a show. Blame it on piracy or poor stories, the result is several theaters have converted into marriage halls and shopping malls. However, there are some savvy businessmen like Abirami Ramanathan, who owns the famous Abirami theater complex. He is a man who believes in innovation as the key to survival. Therefore, he introduced latest technology in screening and acoustics which made his theater one of the most sophisticated in Chennai city. He also put to use the vast premises by converting the space into a multipurpose complex. Hence, besides the theater we have a shopping complex, food plaza, amusement park etc. The crowning glory is of course, a gold souk a la Dubai. So now you can watch a movie, shop, eat and buy jewellery all under one roof. It is the hippest outing after Spencer Plaza.
