There was a time when we had actresses who played author-backed scripts. Suhasini, Revathi, Seetha and more recently Devayani come to mind immediately. Marriage, motherhood and changing industry expectations pushed them to the background and they now appear as mother, sister or aunt of the hero. However, for those producers and directors looking for a sparkling actresses like in the old league, they can head for Thendral Uma. She did really well in Thendral and Suri. Now she is busy in Selvam directed by Agathiyan. She is also working in Mazhaiyillai nanaigiren, directed by Rajendran who was an associate director under Rama. Narayanan. Uma is not a traditional filmi actress. She does not attend any film functions or parties and hardly steps out of her house but for shooting. She also does not give interviews to the press and no photographers are allowed. In the meanwhile, she has also committed for Thodamale.
