“Gone are the days when I taught him to act”, said K.Balachander of his favorite student who got his honorary doctorate at the Sathyabama Deemed University yesterday. “Now, I want him to teach me to direct”, he told the audience. The crowd burst into applause when Kamal Haasan, wearing a convocation gown, stood up to collect his degree.

Kamal in his speech said, “He’s just being affectionate as any father would. As a son it is my duty to say that it is he who carved the actor in me”.

“He is someone who thoroughly studies every character he plays”, Jeppiar, Chancellor of the University, said. “For the 200 characters he has played so far, it will only be right to give him 200 degrees”, he added.

Vijayakanth and Prabu were also present in the function. A message from Superstar Rajnikanth (who is away in Hyderabad shooting for Chandramukhi) was read out in the function which stated that he was proud of his very good friend. “I am sure there is more to come…” he has further added in his message.
