“Dancer” as the title suggests is
the story of a physically handicapped person who
makes it big by becoming a dance sensation. The
film carries a message that a handicap of the
mind is the only obstacle that can come between
physical disability and success. Determination,
self-confidence and hard work are the only means
to achieve true success.
Kutty, the hero of the film is a handicapped person
with one leg. His handicap is not from birth,
but happens early in Kutty’s life, at the
hands of his brother. Instead of lamenting over
this misfortune, Kutty goes about doing odd jobs
to earn a living but silently yearns to do something
remarkable and astounding. Divya, the heroine
is also a resident of the same building where
Kutty lives and happens to observe his interest
towards dance and music. She is interested in
dance and she wants to become a renowned dancer.
So she starts attending dance classes of Arun,
a popular dance master.
The dance master in turn misbehaves with her.
As she neglects his advances and unruly behavior,
she is ill treated by Arun on different occasions.
Divya, who is deeply insulted decides to encourage
Kutty in order to avenge the insults made by Arun.
She assists Kutty in conulting doctors to use
an artificial limb. But he is told that it cannot
be used due to certain complications and that
he should be encouraged to dance with one leg.
Initially he faces failures, but soon he gets
an opportunity to perform on stage. But to their
dismay, Arun happens to be the host of that particular
event. They are again insulted by him but Kutty
wins in the competition and gets lot of appreciations.
From then on, Kutty’s popularity starts
soaring and subsequently leads to Arun’s
downfall.
