Balu Mahendra is busy with Adhu oru
kanakkalam starring Dhanush and Priya
Mani. The maestro known for poetic portrayal
of human emotions on screen is seen after
a long hiatus. Talking of the film he
says it deals with the turbulence and
roller-coaster journey of the teenage
years of a human being. “The teenage
years are the most vulnerable in any man’s
life. You get to taste reality at the
end of it. The starkness of the reality
may shock you. Nevertheless, it always
makes you a better person equipped to
face life with confidence. Add a dash
of gentle love and you get on top of the
world. But it is also the time when your
parents try their best to give shape to
your future. The aspirations of a teenager,
his lover and his ambitious father form
the core of the story,” says Balu.

Talking of the choice of Dhanush for the lead
role he said he had been impressed by the lad
after watching the trailer of Thulluvadho
Ilamai. “But face-to-face with him
I was stunned by the slightly effeminate machismo
the boy exuded. This gave him a vulnerable aura
coupled with the tenacity of the boy-next-door
features. He was the instant choice for AOK”.
The director not known for commercial compromises
says he is now willing to concede a little, like
shooting the film in 70 mm which he says will
hinder the progression of the intimacy in the
story. Anyhow he has gone for it keeping his artistic
instincts as close to the setting as possible.
The film has screenplay, dialogues, cinematography
and editing by Balu Mahendra, music by Ilayaraja
and is produced by K.A. Sai Chidambaram. |
