6 days, that’s all GV Prakash took to complete the work for Mayakkam Enna. The work means composing and recording of songs, the background music and every musical aspect connected to the film. Aadukalam took 8 days. In stark contrast, Deivathirumagal took him a whopping 80 days whereas Polladhavan took 66 days. Why such a difference in the time required for different movies? Well, he says that it is because some films are delivered to him in their final cut whereas the others are given reel by reel with editors bringing new cuts and inclusions regularly. In the latter case, the time taken will obviously be more because work can only be done in fits and starts.

But, why is this special or worthy of a news? Because it is highly phenomenal by general industry standards to complete all work within 6-8 days. It usually takes a music director more than at least a month to get all the work done. But, here the young G.V.Prakash does it in a fraction of that time. Yet, his work does not look hurried or substandard; in fact, they are right up there among the best in the industry; potential award winning material.

Ask G.V.Prakash about this and he coolly says that all he needs is around 1 week to get the work done if the final cut of the film is given to him. What do film makers have to learn from this? Well, don’t give G.V.Prakash too much time. From the evidence of what we have seen this year, working within a week brings out the best from him, like Mayakkam Enna, which is one of the best background scores of a year. So, directors, if you want something special for your film’s BGM, then ask GV Prakash to deliver within a week!
